XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy shifts into top gear: entries open today

The date is set for one of the most exciting battles on the European historic rallying scene: 24–26 September, at the end of the summer.

This year’s edition, counting towards both the European and Italian Championships, will feature a longer route based on the Island of Elba’s legendary special stages – a real treat for the most discerning rally enthusiasts.

Livorno, 9 August 2026 – From today, ACI Livorno Sport’s flagship event, the eagerly awaited XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy, scheduled for 24–26 September, officially shifts into top gear.

Entries open today and will remain open until Wednesday, 9 September for an event counting towards both series of the new-format European Historic Rally Championship and as the seventh and penultimate round of the Italian Historic Rally Championship.

The rally will also retain its eligibility for the Trofeo Rally Toscano, Trofeo A112 Abarth, Trofeo Michelin Storico, Memory Fornaca and the ACI Livorno Club Championship.

This year, the Elba event once again confirms its place among the most prestigious and eagerly awaited rallies on the international scene, and will undoubtedly be one of the most fascinating and representative events of the new European era for historic rally cars.

A LOOK AT THE NEW EUROPEAN FORMAT

From this season, the European Historic Rally Championship has adopted a new structure divided into three separate series: two for asphalt rallies and one dedicated to gravel events.

For asphalt competition, the regulations provide for two separate categories according to the period in which the cars were built: cars produced between 1993 and 2000 compete in a dedicated series, while cars built up to 1992 compete in a technical environment more consistent with their sporting heritage.

Within this new framework, Rallye Elba Storico has been included in both European asphalt series, further recognition of the prestige and international standing achieved by the event through many years of dedicated and passionate work by ACI Livorno Sport together with the entire Island of Elba.

THREE DAYS OF COMPETITION, STARTING WITH THE CAPOLIVERI NIGHT STAGE

The combination of sporting titles attached to this year’s event has required particularly detailed organisational work, focusing on the many logistical and operational aspects introduced by the new European format. Several important changes have therefore been made to meet the requirements of the new international structure.

The competition will take place over three days. The start will be hosted in the harbour area of Porto Azzurro, while the final finish will take place in the picturesque historic centre of Capoliveri.

On Thursday, 24 September, the programme will begin with the spectacular Capoliveri town special stage, a unique event that will officially open the first leg of the rally.

On Friday, 25 September, the competition will move to the western part of the island, with a regroup scheduled in Marciana Marina, while the overnight regroup will be held in Capoliveri.

On Saturday, 26 September, the rally will enter its decisive phase on the roads of eastern Elba, with a regroup in Porto Azzurro before the final finish.

The route will remain faithful to the tradition that has made Rallye Elba Storico famous, featuring ten special stages selected from among the most popular and demanding roads in Italian rallying.

INCREASED COMPETITIVE DISTANCE AND TWO SERVICE PARKS

The main new feature will be the increase in competitive distance, which will reach 140.080 kilometres.

Another important change is the introduction of two separate service parks, a solution adopted in response to the new FIA format. The service area for competitors in the European Championship will be located in Porto Azzurro, while the service park reserved for competitors in the Italian Championship will be based in Capoliveri.

This arrangement has been designed to ensure the best possible operational conditions for the teams and more efficient logistical management of the event.

The rally headquarters will once again be located at the Hotel Airone in Portoferraio, which will also host the administrative checks, while scrutineering will take place along the seafront in Porto Azzurro.

ESSENTIAL COOPERATION WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Once again this year, the work of Automobile Club Livorno and ACI Livorno Sport benefits from the essential support of the local authorities, associations and the entire Elba community.

This long-standing partnership has contributed over the years to the continued growth of the event, which has become increasingly integrated with the local area and a genuine ambassador for the image of the Island of Elba on the international sporting stage.

The figures from recent editions confirm this success. The 2025 edition attracted 153 crews from ten European countries, together with extremely positive feedback from competitors, professionals and rally fans alike.

“Rallye Elba Storico is part of the heritage of both motorsport and our territory,” says Marco Fiorillo, President of ACI Livorno. “Over almost forty years, the event has earned international prestige and credibility. Its inclusion in both European asphalt series represents an important recognition and, at the same time, a new organisational challenge that we have faced with great commitment.

“The value of this event also comes from, and continues to depend on, the extraordinary cooperation of the local administrations, institutions, the entire Elba community and its sporting organisations, without which none of this would be possible.

“Following the 153 crews and ten nations represented in 2025, we look ahead to the new edition with ambition. The European format may have changed, but one thing remains essential: we want Rallye Elba Storico to continue to be a major European rally and, at the same time, one of the most effective ambassadors for the Island of Elba around the world.”
