PRESS RELEASE
The XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico–Trofeo Locman Italy earns European recognition and a leading role
Confirmed in the 2026 calendar and included in both tarmac categories of the continental championship, in addition to its Italian championship status.
The event is scheduled for September 24–26.
Livorno, May 11, 2026 – Automobile Club Livorno and ACI Livorno Sport are working on the 2026 edition of the XXXVIII Rallye Elba Storico – Trofeo Locman Italy, officially included in the calendar of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship as well as the Italian championship, from September 24 to 26.
This represents a significant recognition, the result of dedicated work, long-standing passion, and the strong support of the Elban community. All these elements contributed to the success of last year’s edition, which recorded impressive numbers — 153 crews entered from 10 European countries — together with a very high level of overall appreciation. The route, the quality of the entries, and the charm of the territories crossed created a winning combination, securing not only the confirmation of the event but also a strengthened role within the recent reorganization of the historic rally sector.
Following ratification by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, from 2026 the historic rally landscape has been structured into three distinct championships: two for tarmac events and one for gravel rallies. Regarding tarmac rallies, two separate categories have been introduced according to vehicle generations: on one side, cars built between 1993 and 2000, which will compete in a dedicated series, and on the other, cars built before 1992, competing in contexts more consistent with their era. In this framework, the Rallye Elba Storico has been included in both series, further confirming the prestige acquired by the event. Overall, the continental tarmac calendar includes 15 events across various areas of Europe, with some rallies counting toward more than one championship.
The rally will also continue to count toward the Campionato Italiano Rally Autostoriche, where it will be the seventh and penultimate round of the season. Additional championship validity includes the Trofeo A112 Abarth, the Trofeo Michelin Storico, the Memory Fornaca, and the Campionato Sociale ACI Livorno.
“The FIA’s decision to award the rally double championship validity,” explained Marco Fiorillo, “represents an important recognition of the work carried out together with the local territory, as well as an opportunity to make the rally even richer, more spectacular, and more competitive. Confirmation within the championship was by no means guaranteed, but the results achieved, both on and off the stages in previous editions, rewarded us. We are now ready to face this new challenge with enthusiasm. We have been working for some time together with the Elban community and local institutions toward an even more memorable edition.”
Immediately after the conclusion of last month’s Rallye Elba IRC, the organization resumed work without interruption. The event is now an active construction site in preparation for September’s rally. The draft project currently includes 10 special stages and an increase in competitive mileage to 141 kilometers, in compliance with the new FIA regulations, across two days of competition which, as tradition dictates, will embrace the entire island. The ceremonial start is confirmed in Porto Azzurro, while the finish will once again take place in Capoliveri.
